Batteries charged, camera settings set, car packed and I was ready to leave home for this wedding at The Secret Garden, Ashford, Kent, UK. This was only my second time of working here; the first being just a few weeks before. I was blown away by the venue then and couldn’t wait to work there again. The day for me started at The Secret Garden, as the bride didn’t want photos of the getting ready part of the day which I normally shoot for a full days wedding but not every bride wants those so I made my way straight to the venue to meet the groom and the guests arriving for what was a beautiful wedding with the unexpected weather to match. Although the couple really wanted an outdoor ceremony the weather was looking unpredictable and the venue couldn’t take the risk and as with all great venues they were ready for plan B - So an indoor ceremony it had to be - but what a lovely space to have. Although the ceremony had to be inside, we were very lucky with the weather - it did rain some of the day but this wasn’t until we were all inside for the wedding breakfast and by the time we came out again the clouds had gone… Win win.
As with every wedding I always have a plan but it’s very much a fluid plan, as weddings can be unpredictable - which, believe it or not is what I love about them. So I gather all the times and locations that I need to know and put that information in my back pocket to refer back to if needed, then I just get on with following and observing what happens during the day. A lot of my couples say in their reviews that one, they forgot I was there and two, it was like having another guest at their wedding - like one of their friends with a camera so to speak, documenting the day as it happened in a candid way and not getting in the way or disrupting their plans.

I will always have a love for black & white photographs but understand not everyone does. So for a couple of years now I always give the couple all of their finished photos in both colour and black & white. This way you can choose your favourites to print out and hang on your wall.
